Voluntary Right to Buy
In the last General Election, the Government committed to extend the Right to Buy to housing association tenants.
Housing associations agreed to make this a reality and the Voluntary Right to Buy scheme is currently being piloted at five housing associations. These pilots will help to finalise the details of the new offer and make sure it works as well as possible.
Tenants who are eligible will be entitled to a Voluntary Right to Buy discount and may be able to use their discount to buy the home they live in.
However, there may be cases where a particular home cannot be sold. We will publish a policy about the homes that can be sold nearer the date of the scheme launch.
