Reporting Anti-social behaviour, Bogus callers and loan sharks

A A A

Making our customers feel safe is a high priority of City West. In order to achieve this we need to be informed of any incidents that make you feel uncomfortable or at risk. We will not tolerate anti-social behaviourbogus callers or loan sharks and our ASB service has measures to tackle these issues. Report ASB online or read our ASB Handbook for further information.

You can now report ASB 24 hours a day by calling your local area office. The details will be taken and actioned the next working day.

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)

Anti-social behaviour (ASB) can have a significant impact on the quality of life of our customers. We take all reports of ASB (including domestic abuse and hate behaviour) extremely seriously, and would encourage City West customers to report all incidents.
To report an incident of anti-social behaviour, please contact Neighbourhood Officer at your local area office in the first instance or report ASB online. If you need to contact the Police call 0161 872 5050 or in emergency please contact 999. You can also report ASB to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 500 111.

Our ASB service has been accredited by Housemark, proving our commitment to tackling ASB and its causes. See our ASB Handbook for more details including:

  • What ASB is
  • Ways City West can deal with ASB and the action we can take
  • Further details about domestic abuse, hate behaviour and racial harassment
  • What we will do when you report a problem
  • The level of service you can expect and support available

We aim to take effective and consistent action to tackle ASB in all its forms, with a response that is reasonable and proportionate to the scale and seriousness of the problem.

For further details Communities and Local Government have produced a short leaflet setting out the role of the police, council and social landlords in tackling anti-social behaviour. It also contains advice on how to go about contacting them.

Domestic Abuse

If you need support with a domestic abuse issue please phone the emergency 24 hour Domestic Abuse helpline on 0808 200 0247. The Salford City Council social services emergency team can also be reached on 0161 794 8888. For more details of how City West can help you deal with domestic abuse see our ASB Handbook or speak to a member of staff.

Victim and Witness Mentoring Scheme

We have recruited and trained customers who have had personal experience of using our ASB service (including giving evidence at court). They are available to provide practical and friendly support to customers who have reported ASB to City West, including accompanying them at court hearings, when required.

What is a good neighbour?

A good neighbour is considerate of others and will tolerate and understand that a neighbourhood may consist of many different lifestyles. A good neighbour treats those around them with respect, and looks out for them if they are vulnerable. A good neighbour does not cause nuisance or annoyance to anyone within the vicinity of their home, nor permit a visitor to behave in a way that would cause the peace and enjoyment of the neighbours to be affected.

Bogus Callers

If you think a bogus caller has knocked at your door report it to the Police as soon as possible. Dial 999 tell them what has happened and give them a clear description of the person. Also tell a neighbour, caretaker or Neighbourhood Watch representative in case the caller tries other homes. You can also ring Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Remember, when answering the door always keep the chain on and ask for identification. Look out for familiar logos and only let someone in once you are confident they are who they say they are.

Loan Sharks

Illegal money lenders prey on people in financial difficulties and can ruin people's lives. For more information and tips on how to avoid loan sharks see our Loan Sharks Advice leaflet.
