Work begins on sheltered schemes

Work has started on improvements to four of City West’s sheltered schemes following consultations with customers at Laurence Lowry Court, Streetgate, The Meadows and Pennington Close.

Cyclical works began at the beginning of November on Laurence Lowry Court in Swinton, which is the first scheme to undergo improvements that include a new kitchen, a refurbished communal lounge inclusive of most fixtures & fittings, full overall of fire safety features, improvement communal toilet facilities, a new roof across the complex, redecoration/flooring across all communal areas, mobility scooter storage and better general storage facilities. Along with the refurbishment of the communal area's there will also be some "decent homes work" taking place where required at customers own properties. City West contractors Emanuel Whittaker are located on site in the new site office, ensuring that support is always available to customers. As part of the ongoing support a guest room will be used as a respite facility for those customers who wish to use it whilst any work is undertaken on their property.

In addition to the improvement works, two empty properties in the scheme are undergoing a decent homes pilot scheme that includes the installation of level access showers. When these properties are completed they will also be used as show flats to show customers the excellent standard of work is taking place.

Emanuel Whittakers have completed on Laurence Lowry Court a “getting to know you” survey with all customers, ensuring that every customer has the contact details of contractors, City West project team and that City West is aware of the individual circumstances of every customer. This survey will be carried out across all sheltered schemes before work starts and forms part of the customer consultation process.

With work now underway at Laurence Lowry Court, City West has completed the initial round of consultation with customers of Streetgate, The Meadows and Pennington Close, further consultation events will take place once planning applications have been granted. City West are currently awaiting the results of the planning applications for Streetgate, Pennington Close and The Meadows..
