City West ‘pulls out the stops’ during cold snap
Delivering 500 extra blankets to tenants aged 82 and older
Staff at City West Housing Trust have gone the extra mile to ensure vital services are delivered to those who need them most during the current cold snap.
We've made extra resources available to ensure that urgent repairs are carried out, extra help is delivered to those in need and housing services remain accessible.
Some activity that City West has been involved in during a week of record snowfall includes:
- Delivering 500 extra blankets to tenants aged 82 and older as part of a city wide drive to ensure that older residents keep warm
- Enlisting the help of extra heating engineers, who have been brought in to ensure that emergency calls are dealt with
- Providing temporary heating facilities in more than 70 homes across the city
- Placing three extra plumbers on standby in the evenings, in addition to the usual out-of-hours service.
Our in-house Service Centre has also dealt with a record number of calls, resulting in the Service Centre opening last Sunday. Over 250 calls were handled by the team in a short period. As a result of this surge in calls, the Service Centre opening hours have been extended from 8am and 8pm while the cold weather persists.
We will continue to review the situation several times a day, and are in regular contact with the Council, police and emergency services.
Colette McKune, Director of Asset Management at City West said: “The wellbeing of our vulnerable customers, particularly at a time when weather conditions are so challenging, is of paramount importance to us.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure that we can continue to provide a service for customers, and that they can report emergencies and get in touch with us when they need to.
“Priority is being given to our vulnerable customers who are most at risk during this cold snap and we have dedicated extra resources to helping older residents keep warm.
“Our advice would be: don’t suffer in the cold alone. If you need help or support to keep warm, get in touch. We are pulling out the stops to help everyone.”
