Improvements for four sheltered schemes

A A A

City West are currently in the process of consulting customers on plans to improve four sheltered housing schemes in West Salford.

Following an in depth review of the quality of the sheltered schemes owned by City West, plans have been developed to dramatically improve the communal areas of four schemes by March 2011.

Customers at Laurence Lowry Court in Swinton were consulted on the plans on the 1st September 2010 after it was agreed that they would be the first to benefit from the improvements to their homes.

Laurence Lowry Court has not received any improvement works for many years and customers were delighted that they are finally getting the communal facilities that they have been waiting for.

City West contractors Emmanuel Whittaker have been selected to carry out the work and they presented plans that included a brand new kitchen, Improved communal lounge, storage areas and where required City west will also complete any decent home works at the same time to save any further disturbance to the customers. There are also plans to improve security and car parking as well as a canopy to keep the communal lounge cooler in warmer weather.

Customers were also asked for their preference on the decoration and also any extra features they would like to see included in the works. City West plan for further consultation events to take place with customers giving them further choices where possible when further information is available.

Further consultations took place at the other sheltered schemes due to undergo the improvement works on the following dates:

  • Streetgate Community Room, Little Hulton - 24 customers attended the event which was combined with a coffee morning in an effort to talk to as many customers as possible
  • The Meadows Community Room, Cadishead - 22 customers attended the event which had been well publicised by posters and information from the warden.
  • Pennington Close Community Room, Little Hulton - 23 customers attended this event and City West received comments on how grateful customers are that they are being kept informed about the planned works. John McCall Architects are now looking at the customer's comments and reviewing some of the proposals to suit the customer's requirements where possible.
