Working with customers

City West are investing £14.3 million to improve four high rise blocks at Barton Village in Eccles. We have involved customers at every stage of the project to ensure they have their say in the improvements we make.

Brenda Toole is a City West customer who lives at Barton Village. Brenda is a member of the Barton Village Customer Steering Group who have been involved in the key decisions of the £14.3 million regeneration from the beginning.

Brenda said: “I have been involved right from the beginning and we’ve had lots and lots of consultation with all customers and the Customer Steering Group (CSG). I feel that I have been involved in all aspects of design development although I don’t just feel ‘involved’, I feel that as a group of customers we are actually listened to and heard.

“The relationship between City West and the CSG is healthy and realistic. Every decision is always explained fully and at length as to why that specific decision was made. This gives me peace of mind and also the confidence as a CSG rep to go out and deliver this message to the rest of the Barton Village customers.

“The CSG and City West work extremely well together. The monthly coffee hours that the CSG facilitate are a fine example of this. There’s never a feeling of ‘us and them’. We’re one team working together to achieve the best outcome for everyone involved. I enjoy working with the project team we have a great relationship and we have built up great trust between each other.

“I’ve actually made some new friends through my role as a CSG rep, who I would never have normally spoken to which is fantastic. I feel like the community has really come together these last 12 months and it’s great to see so many customers, new and old, wanting to actively take an interest in what’s going on.”
