City West is part of The Airport Group, an informal alliance of 15 like-minded, stock transfer housing associations that are committed to working in collaboration on issues of common interest. Together the group manage 165,500 social homes across the North West and Pennine regions, home to some 400,000 people, giving the group unparalleled knowledge of residents' aspirations. The Airport Group is an illustration of the 'Big Society' in action.
The group work together to share experiences, best practice and benchmarking to achieve value for money and improve frontline services.
These combined efforts are already making a difference to people's lives. In the last year the group have directly delivered 229 apprenticeships in addition to those provided through the group's memberships of procurement clubs. In 2009/10 alone, the group delivered 240 posts through the Future Jobs Fund and have extended these places securing many permanent jobs.
The Airport Group have been awarded at the Northern Housing Consortium (NHC) Silver Screen Awards for their efforts in tackling worklessness.
Their work was also commended at the 2011 TPAS awards.
An Airport Group project, Active Learning for Residents, has also been recognised at the 2012 TPAS awards.
